Wed Oct 11 ~ Longsolo ~ Flat ~ Santa Monica Pier ( again!)


Flew to Bakersfield this morning .. T&G at BFL RNAV 12R ....

Going over at 6,000' had to follow coast to work around mountain ridges ... series of them










Finally dropped down into the Central Valley where Bakersfield is ..  agriculture everywhere ...

This series of valleys run all way north in Calif










Landed at Bakersfield and took off again headed south

You can see tip of airport at wing tip
















Going back flew over thousands of oil wells .. each little spot .. these are very old wells that are hanging in there ..

I'm surprised Calif hasn't figured a way to shut them all in ..









The Valley is watered by these canals .. not sure if the source is Co River ... of course water rights here are big deal .. otherwise valley's like this one would dry up ...















One of my goals on this flight .. since I had a lot of time

was to get Power Point settings ..  for X manifold pressure .. Y RMPs .. resultant air speed ...

Been needing to nail these for my prescision approaches ... anyway I got some good data since we were in the air for 3 hours

Blu slept the whole time ... or pretended to ... think 3 hrs is his max for legs coming home in  my flight plan

Flying south along the coast from Santa Maria into Oxnard .. then into Camarillo

I fly early and on weekdays .. because this little valley between two mountain chains and the ocean has 6 very busy airports and air traffic becomes quite a challenge

All the VIPs in LA use these instead of LAX

BTW I've only 'seen' one .. Miss Bruce Jenner .. driving his black porche to one of the jets
.. of course I'd get a Trans .. !

Leaving the airport to get a coke ... flat !!

Called rental car company .. they said wait one hour and it'll cost you $100 ..

Blu & I were hot & thirsty .. so I decided to change it myself ...

Only took 20 minutes ..  I honestly don't recall last time I changed a flat .. college?  high  school?




I wanted to reward Blu for flying 3 hours

He hasn't been to our beach ( washed away again) and met any dogs

So I drove back to Santa Monica to the boardwalk / pier

He got a little beach time in ( of course took a dump .. his favorite beach thing)

Ate on the Pier .. no dogs but of course Blu big hit w/ everyone .. for some reason Asians especially

Anyway .. took over an hour to get back but guess it was worth it .. this will be my last trip south.

Hope to finish my IFR ticket tomorrow .. then headed out early back East

Oct 8 ~ Surf's Up  ~ Short Flight ~ Mailbu Yuk Although its hard to see it this pic ... sets of 12' waves have been rolling in for the past few days Tons of surfers .. who begin at sun up ... continue to sundown ... took this @ 630 AM .. surfers out Completely wiped all the sand from the beach .. now all rocks Pounds the bottom of condo as rocks bounce off the support piers ... Airport restaurant was packed for breakfast so ran some errands in Camarillo ( another dog collar .. he keeps destroying them) Decided to drive to Malibu to find a nice beach / breakfast restaurant which was dog friendly ... ZIP Also the people I ran into ( TONS Arabs) driving stupid expensive cars were all assholes ... people in Malibu have way to much $ and work hard to show it ..... got me to wondering why I came ......

Mon Oct 9th ~ Santa Ana Winds!!!     Blu Zuma Event Santa Ana winds !!   40+ knots from the EAST I had to get out and turn my plane around to face EAST .. damn FBO had it facing wrong way ... beating up my pretty little plane The FBO I'm at didn't have a tug .. so I had to get another guy & turn it by hand .. no tug!! This is pic from restaurant on the field Big Surf has destroyed our condo beach .. so drove south to Zuma beach .. beautiful. Got Blu out and the first thing he did was take a dump in front of a life guard patrol. ....  they were in shock like they didnt' know what Blu was ( a dog ) and what that pile of stuff was ( shit ). I was told Bluntly NO DOGS ON THE BEACH and would I pick up his mess!! I asked him where the dog dump dispenser was .. he said they had none because NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED ON THE BEACH I told him to just cover it with sand & all will be well .. and left .... THIS PLACE .. hate it m...

Oct 13  Fri ~ Cold Relapse Spent all day @ condo except for short coffee run to Dume ... Cold returned with a vengeance .. was able to do a little trip planning to Farmington Made some calls to FBO's & rental cars
